Office365 And The Future Workforce

Speaker: Vincent Choy

As a Office365 consultant, most companies I come across agree that Office365 has the productivity tools to equip their staff to be the workforce of the future. Taking baby steps, they start their Office365 journey with Email. Most have not gotten beyond that. The problem is, Email is the communication tool of the Workforce of the Past, being invented in 1986 and in use for the past 32 years. The more adventurous started trying some of the other workloads, with mixed results. Reasons include user resistance, lack of training, lack of management support and not sure how to map it to corporate goals. This often results in Email being the primary communication tool provided 'officially' to the employee. However, the employee is living in a smartphone world, using multiple apps that does things from taxi booking to meal reservations. When the company only provides email, they improve their own work productivity using free apps like dropbox, WhatsApp, facebook etc. With these apps, the company has no administrative oversight, and has no control on what is being shared with whom. When employees leave, the free apps follow the employee. A rogue employee can also share private information out. On the other end, the company may have signed NDAs with their client, or might be bidding competitively against fierce competition, or may have valuable intellectual property, which can now be at risk. In this talk, I will be sharing on the concept of the Microsoft Office365 stack, beginning from how it takes the user identities from the company's AD server, protecting it with a whole layer of security, compliance and administrative tools, and then delivering a whole library of safe and productive apps that work similar, better and deeper than what the employees may already be using "for free".

Visualizing SharePoint Data with Power BI

Speaker: Tom Junfeng Zhang

SharePoint Lists can be used to track important information like Projects, Inventory, Tasks etc.. However, they are flat lists by themselves and it requires certain level of familiarity with the lists to make sense of the data. Imagine you can use a free tool to create visual charts for the data that other users can view and even interact with, and gain insights immediately! Your productivity will be elevated to the next level. The good news is that you can do it with Power BI. The session will be showcasing how business users can use Power BI to create and share visualizations on top of SharePoint lists for effective communication and reporting.
